DISCOVER OUR AUROCHS IN THEIR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Come and admire our aurochs, a unique show in Ardèche
MEET OUR MAMMALS AND CARRY THEM!
The aurochs is a wild ox, ancestor of the current breeds of domestic cattle, appeared about 2 million years ago, first in Asia and then in Europe. Threatened by domestication and hunting, the aurochs gradually disappeared in Europe at the end of the Middle Ages, before disappearing completely in the first half of the 17th century (the last specimen died in 1627 in the forest of Jaktorow in Poland ). Since the beginning of the 20th century, first in Germany and then in France, aurochs have been reconstituted by selective breeding of cattle breeds. Today, several French breeders select the closest specimens of the breed of origin. Our animals come from these farms, and our Park is now part of the network of conservatories that are committed to perpetuate this species.
